

Alfredo Bringas
Originally from Mexico City, Alfredo Bringas is a renowned performer and promoter of contemporary music, whose work encompasses the dissemination, teaching, and research of percussion repertoire. His career is distinguished by his extensive experience in academic and popular music, establishing as an important figure in the contemporary music scene.
He was a founding member of the Percussion Orchestra of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and principal percussionist of the Camerata de Las Américas. With both groups, Alfredo participated in the premiere of more than a hundred contemporary works and contributed to the recording of more than a dozen albums dedicated to Latin American composers.
In the field of popular music and jazz, he has been part of prominent national projects such as Banco del Ruido, Nada Personal, and Wet Paint, among others, actively participating in the exploration of new sounds and creative proposals.
As a founding member of the renowned percussion ensemble Tambuco, Alfredo Bringas has recorded seventeen albums, including a significant number of works that have been specifically composed for the group. Tambuco's discography has been recognized with four GRAMMY nominations, as well as other international awards. As a member of Tambuco, Alfredo Bringas has toured extensively internationally, playing in various countries across five continents plus concerts all over the Mexican territory.
His outstanding artistic work has been recognized with numerous national and international awards, including the prestigious Japan Foundation Award, which reflects his contribution to cultural enrichment and his commitment to the promotion of contemporary music.
Alfredo Bringas obtained a bachelor's degree in Percussion with honors from the National School of Music at the UNAM. He subsequently pursued a Master's degree in Art History at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the UNAM. In 2012, he obtained a Doctorate in Musical Performance with honors from the Faculty of Music of the same university.
Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his educational excellence and his contribution to the academic field. In 2021, he was nominated for the National University Award in the Area of Teaching in the Arts. In 2022, he was awarded the University Merit Medal for his 30 years of academic service at UNAM.
He currently serves as a full-time professor in the Faculty of Music at UNAM, where he teaches chamber music and percussion performance at the preparatory, bachelor's, and master's levels.
